Darnhill Festival Association
Celebrating over 16 fantastic years of festival fun, family arts and entertainment on the Darnhill estate in Heywood

The 16th Darnhill Festival takes place on Saturday 6th July 2019 in and around Argyle Parade.

This year our intrepid (if slightly bungling) explorer, Professor Jigget will take us back in his time machine to visit Darnhill through the ages.

Handmade Samba will lead the procession which will set off at 12 noon from Argyle Parade and will wind it’s way around the estate. This will be followed by a full programme of entertainment and activities for families and children to participate in; from a bouncy castle, climbing wall and face painting to woodland crafts, foraging sessions and four marquees of creative activities.

The festival theme is Time Travel and celebrates Cartwheel Arts’ Heritage Lottery Funded project, Overspill which explores the history of the Darnhill estate, from farmland to becoming one of Manchester’s original overspill estates. Bring along your old photos of the estate to be shared to the Overspill website - www.overspillmcr.org - and investigate local history with Manchester Archives + in Darnhill community library.

There is something for everyone and all are welcome at this free, community event.

This was our 10th anniversary family summer festival on Darnhill Estate. The festival celebrated memories of past festivals and encouraged everyone to think about their dreams for the future.
Everyone had a great day out in the sunshine and comments included: “I think it’s fun living in Darnhill.” “The day was outstanding and entertaining was, and the whole event was so cool.” “I thought this festival was brilliant. I had a great time. Best ever.”

  • IlluminUS: Darnhill Christmas Festival 2012

We worked with students from Siddal Moor High School, the Youth Service Friday Night project and young people from the Darnhill estate.
